# Visually compare seacoos.org to secoora.net to see if they look the same. Note items which appear in one and not the other. Do this while both logged in on both sites and when logged out on both sites.

    • description text on secoora.net is grey instead of black.
    • missing lines in between sections-- this makes the sections bump up against each other.
    • obvious diff-- header image hasn't been changed from plone header to secoora header yet.

# Rename index_html items to something sane and make them the default folder views by using the "display" folder action.

    • Done. index_html --> currents . previous currents file --> currents-resource .
    • deleted new_index_html - it was redundant.

# Review the short names for all items which are not automatically generated by Open Office. Make sure they conform to the standard naming convention for the site which is:

    1. All lower case
    2. Dashes replace spaces and other punctuation (definitely rename content which has spaces (%20's) in the URL
    3. Sleek clean names ('anemometer' instead of 'anemometer-online') so that the URLs look good when distributed in emails, etc.
    • changed south-atlantic-bight-activity.doc/odt/pdf to sab-activity.doc/odt/pdf in order to keep it consistent with naming convention of sab-activity main page and sab-activity.pdf.

# Change all instances of "SEACOOS' to 'SECOORA'. Match case. Be consistent (secoora.org is usually in lower case. SECOORA the organization is usually all in lower case).

    • Done. Also removed phrase "From ONR, the sponsor of SEACOOS," in the link to the ONR website.

# Look through the HTML of Page items for CSS. Make notes about inline CSS so we can move it to a CSS registry and change it to CSS classes. Make notes about CSS classes in tag attributes because those classes are probably already registered on seacoos.org and haven't been moved over to secoora.org. Sometimes visual elements missing from pages (like divider lines) are because you don't have the CSS yet to display them on secoora.org

I'm just going to list them out here for future searching:

# Make note of all the places where you see headers on a page which are text as graphic images.

    • go with the flow (currents)
      • flowing ocean poster (flowing-ocean-poster.png)
      • catching the current poster (catching-the-current-poster.png)
      • flowing ocean activities (flowing-ocean-activities.png)
      • flowing ocean glossary (flowing-ocean-glossary.png)
      • flowing ocean resources (flowing-ocean-resources.png)
      • flowing ocean links (flowing-ocean-links.png)
      • flowing ocean survey (flowing-ocean-survey.png)
    • Lagrangian versus Eulerian Tracers (observations-resource)
      • Eulerian Current Observations (eulerian-current-observations.png)
      • Lagrangian Current Observations (lagrangian-current-observations.png)
    • personally, I think that while the graphics headers look better than simple text, they're not that gorgeous.

# References to Katie Greganti as a contact only should be replaced with Margaret Olsen (olsen@uga.edu). If a location for the contact is required use University of Georgia Marine Extension Service (UGA MAREX). Do not replace Katie as an author or contributor where she is listed as such.

    • There were no references.

# Check that all table of contents links at the top of the page work. Make notes of where #anchors from the table of contents do not have "back to top" links.

    • go with the flow (currents)
      • first link (poster --> flowing ocean poster section) doesn't work. Back to top link works tho.

    • The Gulf Stream and Surface Current Patterns of the South Atlantic Bight (sab-activity)
      • first off, the table of contents needs to be put on two lines instead of one-- it makes the page too wide for my browser.
      • all links work, but none have 'back to top' links.
    • Taking the Pulse of our Coastal Skidaway River (skidaway-river-activity)
      • all links work, but none have 'back to top' links.
    • Flowing Ocean Glossary (glossary)
      • #j, o, p, q, r, v, x, y, z don't work, presumably because there aren't any vocab starting with those letters. in that case, the letter shouldn't look like a link in the first place.
      • no back to top buttons at all.

# Note which presentations are inlines with that funny old page control widget (see this page for an example). This was created with some crusty old software. We're going to redo those with open office.

    • None in this section.

# Note which links to content (other than the ones at the top of the page which say things like "Download this activity as an Adobe PDF") only as a non-web file to download (like a PDF, a PowerPoint??, a Word Document, etc.). We are going to webify those.

    • no others.

# Note any links to offsite content which no longer work.

# Note any images which appear pilfered from offsite content (that is, you don't see them reproduced within our original content).

# Note any content items (Pages, Files, Images) which do not have Contributors or Rights. We need to figure out how to get those in good shape.

    • None of the items have contributors or rights-- not even the classroom itself. I think it'll be difficult to find out who they belong to by ourselves, unless that info is written down somewhere else. My suggestion is that we put up a disclaimer somewhere on the site saying 'we don't know where some of these images came from, but if they're yours and you don't want us using them, we'll be happy to take them down.' Or something like that.

    • Satellite image of the South Atlantic Bight Sea Surface Temperature (appendixa.png)

# Note any Page content items without Descriptions. We may want to provide them where they don't mess with the page layout in unacceptable ways. Where they would mess with the page layout, I may create a new content type which doesn't display the description on the page view. Not sure. But I think Page items in general need descriptions.

    • They all have descriptions. sab-activity's isn't much of a description, though.

# Note any File or Image items which do have Title or Description metadata. We might want to get rid of it. It only messes up searches.

    • appendixa.png : title & descr.
    • appendixba.png : title
    • appendixbb.png : title
    • flowing-ocean-poster.gif : title, descr.

# Make sure all Pages items have a format of HTML. This is easy to overlook because structured text or restructured text with HTML embedded will still render as HTML. This may seem like a nit. But it makes life hard for programmers who are searching the portal catalog for all Pages with just HTML or other content formats.

    • Done.

# misc

    • on currents main page, under 'catching the currents' poster section, need to remove "poster available in may 2007" part, as it's already past that.
    • I think the best thing we could do to make the page prettier is to change the default navigation sidebar on the left. It's awfully gray and bland and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the site. I could put together some graphics to use fairly easily, but I don't know if that would reduce the accessibility of the site and if that would be acceptable.
    • Another good thing to do would be to make the individual section headers under the main page centered instead of left-justified. This especially applies to the page title as it's displayed at the top of the page.
